There is much fault to be found in our stars

Today I wasn't inspired by a song title, but rather a quote from my favorite book, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. If you haven't read it, I suggest you get your butt to Barnes & Noble, because it is phenomenal!
Great books aside, today was extremely tiring. I was at school until 6:30 because I had a yoga class, and I'm pretty much tired as... A really tired person? I suck at metaphors.
Moving on from bad metaphors, how've you all been since we've last spoke? I do apologize for my absence, I just got really busy and lazy over the weekend. Just try to imagine what I wore! I know it's not the same, but it's all I've got. To make you feel better, I have some beautiful selfies for you to gaze at today!

Attempting to be a cat

Meow!

In all my pictures I look slightly insane. I think it's because I sat on my glasses and they're now lopsided.

Derp

Que the Michael Jackson "hee hee!"
There you go, narwhals. In conclusion, I'm a goofball, I'm currently watching Baggage Battles, I'm a lazy bum and I like cats. Bing, bang, boom.

Don't you forget about me

Guess what day it is...
Hello folks, today is February 14th, and that can only mean one thing. 'Tis Valentine's day! The day of chocolate and flowers and love! And what better way to spend it than toting a cardboard cutout around with you all day? Yes, it's true. I'm a directioner. If that makes you dislike me, then so be it. Nothing can stop my love for those goofs.

Harry's creeping in the back

Don't mind Sophie's thumb in the corner there...

My friend Claire looked adorable with her cutout, so I thought I'd include her in this post of love!

Blurry face
There you have it, folks. My Valentine's Day duds. Told you it would be something to see! Along with the cutout I brought chocolate cupcakes and hand written letters to my friends, along with special gifts for my Valentines (Sophie and my other friend Claire. I have two friends named Claire. And now you know.) Over all it was a good day!

Hit me with your best shot

I was so busy that I nearly forgot to post my outfit of the day! The horror! Luckily I got done straightening my hair and preparing for Valentine's Day with an hour left of the day, so there's still hope!
I know Valentine's Day is just a Hallmark holiday that doesn't really mean anything, but to me it does. To some it reminds them of how single they are, but to me it reminds me of all the people I love in my life. It's not just about romantic love, it's about platonic love too.
All cheese aside, I got my friend Sophie to photograph me at lunch, and the pictures turned out pretty good!
I think I was attempting to be a ballerina?

My absolute favorite pair of shoes. Not only are they cute, they're incredibly comfortable!

I quite like how this picture turned out, although you can see how lopsided my glasses are (I may or may not have sat on them)
Today's outfit was a little plain, but I think I jazzed it up in the Janae way. I don't really know what else to say, I'm just sitting in my bed, typing this and watching a show on the Travel channel about soul food. And now I'm hungry at 11 PM. Great.

I must away 'ere break of day!

All the pretty girls on a Saturday night

Continuing with the theme of posting song lyrics as titles, I'm using the some All The Pretty Girls by Fun. as my title today. It's funny, I like Fun.'s older album so much more than their newer one. There's too much autotune on the new one.
I'm watching Criminal Minds right now oh my goodness he just stabbed a hooker.
   Sorry, tangents.
You're in luck, narwhals! Today I wore a super fun outfit today, so you get some major eye candy. Yay! My past few were kind of boring and mundane, so I channeled all of my creativity into this. And my V-Day outfit. Wait'll you see that one!
Before I get to the pictures, I'd like to apologize for the picture quality. It sucks that my first great OOTD post was taken by me and a mirror, but my photographer (AKA my mom) is in Seattle for a psychology convention, so I have so make do with what I've got.
This skirt is hands down my best thrift store find ever. It's a sunny yellow high waisted skirt with gypsy caravans all over! It's a shame you can't see it too well...

Wow I suck at this

More sucking
And there you have it, folks! My cute outfit of the day. I somehow managed to cut my feet out in every single shot, but during the day I was wearing black studded Steve Maddens, but when I took the pictures I was wearing pink suede Jeffery Campbell Lita booties. Uninteresting-interesting facts by Janae. Anyways, yeah. This is my life. Hopefully tomorrow I can get one of my friends to photograph me or summat.
   Until then,
Stay gold, Ponyboy

My favorite things Monday: Valentine's Day addition

You either love it or you hate it. It either makes you want to sing ballads of love or puke. It either gives you hope or reminds you that you're still single.
That's right. I'm talking about Valentine's Day. Although I've been single for every single Valentine's Day of my life, I still love the holiday. It just makes me feel all lovey-dovey and happy. It brings out the girly girl in me and inspires me to dress in my finest pink and heart printed duds. It inspires me to be happier, dress better and eat more chocolate!
One of my favorite parts of Valentine's Day, as mentioned before, is getting dressed. I'm the kind of person who wears a reindeer sweater in December, green on Saint Patrick's day and pastels on Easter. I love any excuse to dress up, and I love inspiration.
Another great thing about Valentine's day is all the love themed items and pictures people make.
Which brings me to the topic at hand. My favorite thing Monday: Valentine's Day addition.
Tied with a bow belt in rose quartz, Modcloth
This belt obviously doesn't scream Valentine's Day, but for that reason it's more versatile and can be worn year-round! I love bow belts more than I can explain, and this one is in a beautiful color.
Outright Amity Dress, Modcloth
 Wait for it...
Outright Amity Dress, Modcloth
Ta-da! The best part about this dress is the back! Although I'm not sure how you'd wear a bra with this, it's very lovely to look at!
A-Line Mini Skirt, Forever 21
This skirt is simple yet cute. It's in a really pretty color and it's a nice silhouette.
Floral Oxfords, Forever 21
I love oxfords so much and these are a really pretty print. So Valentine-y!
UO Sweetheart Sunglasses, Urban Outfitters
How can you celebrate V-Day without heart sunglasses! These come in a few different colors, and I like that they come in black so they're not too distracting or out there.

Lace Bodice Flippy Dress, Topshop
I know I already have a dress like this in the post, but this one is also really pretty! The back is all lace which is a really cool idea, but, once again, what kind of bra do you wear?
Lovely Curio Shelf, Urban Outfitters
This is such a pretty little shelf! I want to have this in my room so bad. It'll make you smile year round!
Red Heart Balloon Watercolor Painting Print, Etsy
Leave it to Etsy make me want to live in a painting. There are some incredibly talented people with their work for sale, so I suggest you all check it out and support unknown artists!

   Until we meet again,
Janae

Footloose and Fancy Free

What inspired the title for this post, you may ask? Because the song Footloose was on the radio when I came home from school. That's it. Pretty unremarkable.
Anticlimaxes aside, I want to share something very personal about myself with you all. Why would I post my deepest darkest secrets on the internet, you ask? The answer is very simple. This thing isn't a secret to me. It's not something I'm trying to hide. It's not something I care to kept locked up, because I'm not ashamed, I'm not embarrassed and I really think it's not a big deal.
Last year I was diagnosed with clinical depression and started taking prescription meds for it. At the time it felt like a huge relief, because I always knew something was off with me, I just never knew what. Depression runs in the family so I could've seen it coming, I just never knew it was a possibility. The meds helped immensely, and depression doesn't take over my life anymore, so I'm glad for that!
At the risk of sounding like a Cymbalta commercial, I'm going to move on.
   Clothes! Outfits! Happy stuff! Yay.
My cat finally decided to cooperate. Congratulations, Cricket. You're famous.
Today I wanted to be comfortable and cute, and what better way to go about that than with a maxi skirt? I've actually never owned a maxi skirt until now (behind on the trend, I know) and I never really liked the look until I saw this one at Nordstrom's junior department, BP (no, BP is not paying me to talk about their stuff all the time. I just like it.). What I liked about this skirt is that it's a wooly sweater material which makes it perfect for winter! Sadly, I won't be able to wear it in the summer, but I live in Oregon so it's almost never summer.
And here we see Cricket trying to wiggle out of my grasp.

Of course my mom had to take the picture when I looked down...
There you have it folks. My outfit of the day from 2/11/13. Hope you enjoy, and stay tuned for some grade A Valentine's Day posts!
   Until we meet again,
Janae

Prom? Nordstrom? Blasphemy!

Alright narwhals, I've got something near and dear to my heart that I must share with you. Nordstrom's junior department, BP is currently selling prom dresses! If you're wondering why I'm so buzzed about this, it's because I'm on the BP fashion board. What is the BP fashion board? What is the BP fashion? What is the BP? What is the? What is? What?
BP fashion board is a board of high school age kids (mostly girls but there's one guy) who meet once a month at a certain BP location to talk about trends, fashion news and upcoming things in BP. I don't think all states have a board, but Oregon does, so yippee! A month or two ago we talked about prom at one of the meetings and what we'd think about BP selling prom dresses, and now they're selling them! It feels really cool to see that Nordstrom has been listening to our feedback and took it into consideration.
I've looked at the dresses and they're all really beautiful! There are tons of styles online for every body type and every price point!
Of course, I didn't mention this just to give Nordstrom a shoutout. I also wanted to share some of my favorite dresses!

Trixxi Sequin&Tulle Party Dress, $78.00
I absolutely adore this dress. Everything about it works for me. The sequins, the tulle at the bottom, the color, the silhouette. Of all the dresses they have, I think this one is my favorite. I'd pair it with glittery gold pumps to match the top of the dress and a wavy side fishtail braid.

As U Wish Strapless Sequin Ombre Mermaid Gown, $118.00
This dress really stood out to me because I love the ombre effect with the sequins. It really looks like a mermaid's dress! It would look really good on a tall and slim girl with strappy silver heels and wavy long hair, like a mermaid. This would also look fantastic on a girl with teal tips on her hair!

Hailey by Adriana Papell Embellished Jersey Gown, $129.00
This dress is absolutely stunning. It's very sophisticated with a little sex appeal from the lace cutout and the leg slit. It would look gorgeous with a red pump, red lip, cat eye and a deep side part.
Jessica McClintock Strapless Lace & Tulle Dress, $115.00
I love how adorable this dress is. It's really playful and fun but the black lace gives it some sophistication. Really great for prom. This one would look great with black heels and a voluptuous top bun.
Pisarro Nights Beaded Illusion Cocktail Dress, $148.00
Of course I love this dress. Though it doesn't scream "prom", how could I pass up a 20's style flapper dress? Love it. It evokes thoughts of hazy speakeasies and chill jazz bars. This one would look great with t-strap heels, a faux bob (there are some great tutorials on youtube) and a cute headband. Avoid feathered headbands and feather boas so it doesn't look like you're wearing a costume.

The Spirit of Suburbia

This is Janae. This is her cat.

Hello humans of this earth who somehow stubbled across the undiscovered glory that is this blog. Nice to meet you. I'm Janae and I'll be your guide through this intense journey of self discovery, so sit back, relax and let me get behind the wheel.
I sincerely hope you all realize that that first paragraph was complete bullshit. Except for the undiscovered glory part. And my name really is Janae. But, you know. Details.
I feel as if I'm compelled to give some sort of introduction but I haven't the slightest idea what to say. So, without further ado, let's get on to the outfit pictures, eh?
Let me just fix my hair and stand awkwardly for this picture

Fun fact: When this picture was being taken I was staring at my adorable kitten.

Speak of the devil.
I tried taking some cute pictures with the little devil and he kept trying to escape!

So there you have it. Today's outfit wasn't too exciting due to the fact that I didn't do anything all day, so don't get used to this simplistic style. Until tomorrow. Adieu!
